Chilled Mirror Dew Point Hygrometers
Dew Point Range

S-1 (Standard Model): -40 ℃DP ~ 50 ℃DP
S-2 (Low Dew Point Model): -75 ℃DP ~ 15 ℃DP
S-3 (High Dew Point Model): 0 ℃DP ~ 95 ℃DP

The DewStar series offers high-precision and reliable chilled mirror hygrometers in three models: Standard (S-1), Low Dew Point (S-2), and High Dew Point (S-3). These models provide optimal solutions for a wide range of applications and dew point ranges.

Designed for calibration standards, dew point measurement in furnaces and chambers, humidity control in cleanrooms and dry rooms, and monitoring corrosive gases, DewStar supports diverse needs from laboratories to industrial sites with over 20 years of trusted performance.

Reliable Primary Measurement Method for Dew Point

The DewStar series uses the chilled mirror measurement principle, defined in JIS Z 8806, Section 8: Methods Based on Thermodynamic Equilibrium Temperature as 8.1 Chilled Mirror Hygrometer, 8.1.2 Optical Hygrometer. It is also referred to as a mirror-type or optical dew point hygrometer.

Compared to polymer-based sensors such as capacitive or resistive types, which indirectly derive dew points using calibration curves from electrical or temperature changes, chilled mirror hygrometers detect dew points directly. This direct measurement ensures high reliability, exceptional accuracy, and superior long-term stability. Recognized as a Primary Method for dew point and humidity measurement, it is widely used as a trusted standard instrument in calibration and reference applications.

Measurement Principle of Chilled Mirror Hygrometers

When a gas cools, its relative humidity reaches 100% at a specific temperature, causing condensation. This temperature is known as the dew point.

The gas to be measured is continuously sampled onto the mirror surface, where the temperature is precisely controlled using a Peltier element (thermoelectric cooling module) and measured with high accuracy by a platinum resistance thermometer (PRT).

Lowering the mirror’s temperature below the dew point causes dew (or frost) to form, while raising it above the dew point causes evaporation. Light emitted from a source is directed onto the mirror, and the reflected light (scattered light) is detected by a sensor to monitor changes in the amount of dew or frost on the surface. The system automatically controls the mirror temperature to stabilize the condensation level, and this stabilized temperature is measured as the dew point (or frost point).

Service & Support

The DewStar series is fully developed, manufactured, calibrated, and serviced in SHINYEI’s laboratories.

Our calibration services ensure traceability to the humidity standards provided by the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ), part of AIST. Additionally, our calibration facility is registered as a JCSS-accredited body under the International MRA framework, enabling us to issue calibration certificates bearing the ILAC MRA-accredited JCSS symbol.
